How did you do that? And how do you even know how to do that?’

If you’ve heard this phrase in response to performance of your craft, you are meeting one of the best recognised criteria for an expert. By this definition, you are an individual who can ‘recognise novel patterns from noise.’ You see through the clutter to the meaning. You have enough knowledge and experience that you simply know what needs to be done. You see the Matrix.

If you have arrived at the point where certain things just come naturally to you, then this week’s newsletter is a simple note of congratulations: You have become an expert.

Now, let’s pose a question about your orientation: Where to from here?

Do you want to become a thought-leader? A legend in your field? A teacher? And what do you want to be known for? A lifetime of industrious output? Championing a cause? Perhaps changing lives, garnering awards, or creating that one great iconic instance of…?

This week, take a moment to consider where to from here as you grow your expert status. The greater your degree of intentionality, the more focused you will become in crafting your own career.
